This captivating evening of works showcases the Dance Theatre of Harlem’s celebrated versatility, beginning with New Bach. Choreographed by the the visionary Robert Garland, the company’s recently appointed artistic director and former resident choreographer, the piece pays homage to the timeless Baroque era music of Bach with a modern spin. The company then transitions to Take Me With You, choreographer Robert Bondara’s pulsating duet set to the hauntingly captivating sounds of English rock band Radiohead. The program concludes with Balanchine’s iconic Pas de Dix — translated from French as “a dance for 10” — a masterpiece composed of solos, duets and ensemble movements. Harkening back to Balanchine’s days as a student in Russia, specifically his participation in Glazunov’s Raymonda, this work is a testament to the beloved choreographer’s reverence for classical tradition and his innovative spirit.
